PAC-MAN Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs Announced

Namco has revealed that a new multi-player Pac-Man title is on the way to the Nintendo Switch, and it’s set to arrive in 2024.

This online-only title will pit you against 64-other players.

PAC-MAN Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs is an online-only PAC-MAN eating competition! Eat your way through multiple interconnected mazes using Power Pellets and a variety of Power Items to chomp the GHOSTS and opponent PAC-MAN players! Be the last PAC standing at the end of each match in this 64-player Battle Royale to be the Chomp Champ!

We mentioned a few months ago that Pac-Man 99 was set to cease operations, and it seems that has now happened. Here’s what we had to say at the time:

This free title with Nintendo Switch Online is sadly set to cease operations this October, though optional extra content that could be purchased in-game, including a version of the game that can be played offline, will still be available after online services for the title have finished.

Nintendo gave no reasoning for the discontinuation of the game, but it could be a number of factors.

Back then we weren’t quite sure why Pac-Man 99 was ending its Nintendo Switch Online tenure, but it seems obvious now that Pac-Man 99 died so that this new title could exist.

It’s worth noting that unlike Pac-Man 99, PAC-MAN Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs (catchy title, eh?), is not part of NSO, and will instead be releasing on multiple consoles as well as the Nintendo Switch.

Namco haven’t given details on pricing yet, but it’s incredibly likely that this will be a free-to-play title, with additional paid content, and if we were to hazard a guess, that’s where the Pac-Man outfits come in.

Stay tuned for more as it breaks, and pour one out for the world of '99 that we lost.
