Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties: Definitive Edition Arrives September

Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties: Definitive Edition launches this September on the Switch eShop, and will also be available physically via Limited Run Games.

Upon its original release it was criticised for its claim of “full motion video” despite mostly being still-scenes with audio over the top. The story was also lambasted as being nonsensical and crude. Yet despite all that, a little bit like Night Trap, the game still has an appeal, perhaps for all the wrong reasons.

Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties was an obscure full motion video game released on the 3DO in the 90’s. Well, it was obscure, until it gained internet notoriety in 2009 for just how ludicrous and unintentionally hilarious the acting and storyline is.

The game gained its internet fame primarily through an episode of The Angry Video Game Nerd, hosted by series creator James Rolfe, and it snowballed from there, with countless memes and clips from the game being shared around the internet. But up until now, it hasn’t been particularly easy to ‘play’ as it is essentially a 3DO exclusive (it was released on Windows but in very limited quantities).

Thankfully(?) now we can play it in all its glory on modern consoles, with this re-release. This definitive edition features deleted scenes, interviews and audio commentaries. Commentaries and interviews feature actors from the game itself, as well as the aforementioned James Rolfe who launched the title into the zeitgeist once more.
