Square-Enix are gearing up to announce a sequel to The World Ends With You, according to reports...

Among all the super-mega-awesome-next-gen console rumours, here's a refreshing one concerning some software. According to the Twitter account of VGTribune's Roger DiLuigi (via GoNintendo, who seem to validate the trustworthiness), a "very reliable source" has come up trumps with word that Square-Enix are planning on revealing a sequel to The World Ends With You at E3.

The World Ends With You was a 'contemporary' JRPG released exclusively on Nintendo DS in 2008 to rave reviews and still commands a fiercely dedicated cult following. Co-developed by Jupiter and Square-Enix, the game was helmed by members of the Kingdom Hearts team. Character designer Tetsuya Nomura expressed interest in working on a sequel back in August.

No clue as to which platforms a sequel would be heading to, but smart money must be on 3DS at the least.
