Smash Bros. Wii U is a 'big priority' for Namco but will it feature any of their characters?

It was recently revealed that Nintendo will be developing the next Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS alongside Namco and the news was met with both praise and criticism from fans of the series. Katsuhiro Harada is very keen to ensure everyone just how much of a big priority this game is to Namco.

Speaking recently to NowGamer, Harada explained how much effort Namco will be putting into the game and assured fans that some of the very best developers from Namco are on board.

"Obviously it's a big priority for the company, so company-wide there are a lot of people involved with that particular project. Not just from Tekken but a lot of our franchises. Although our main core staff is busy with Tekken Tag tournament 2 and trying to finish that up, I do think we'll support the initiative in some kind of capacity."

One question that has been asked by nearly everyone who is waiting for the title, yet has still to be answered, is whether or not Namco characters will be featured in the upcoming game. Harada couldn't confirm or deny whether or not we would be seeing characters from the likes of Tekken or Klonoa because by the sounds of it, the team haven't actually decided yet.

"We're not really sure at this moment but when thinking of the playerbase who is playing Smash Bros, maybe Tekken characters is something they wouldn't want, so I've been pulling back on that a bit. But I don't know."

It was revealed a few days ago that Tekken's Heihachi had joined the roster for Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, the Smash Bros.  inspired Sony title arriving on PS3 and Vita later this year. This led some fans to believe that perhaps Smash Bros. will see similar treatment.

Harada stated back in February that the reason he released Tekken on 3DS was because of the cheers and excitement coming from a nearby Smash Bros. match and he knew that gamers had similar feelings when playing Tekken
