Donkey Kong is one of Nintendo's most recognisable characters, while Kirby can appear as any one of Nintendo's most recognisable characters, not to mention other third-party videogame characters as well. On the Super Nintendo, we got the almighty Donkey Kong Country trilogy, with two more entries more recently; Kirby has appeared in so many different games, which change shape and form even more frequently than the pink protagonist himself.

Donkey Kong has animal helpers in the form of Rambi the Rhino, Squawks the Parrot and many more, while Kirby has Rick the Hamster... If you know us at N-Europe by now, then you'll know which character would 'win' by default due to this fact alone; but which character series will you pick your fighter from?

The latest tournament in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate which went live today, lets you choose characters from either the Donkey Kong game or Kirby, fighting battles which you'll be able to partake in for the next three days until the event ends.

Is it ON like Donkey Kong? Or can Kirby copy his way to victory? Most importantly though... does this event foreshadow the inclusion of Rick the Hamster as a playable character for Smash? (we can only hope so)
