Super Smash Bros. Ultimate hosts a Melee style tournament, starting today

Ask any Nintendo fan of a certain age the question 'what is your favourite Smash game?' and the answer will more than likely be the seminal Super Smash Bros. Melee which released on the Nintendo GameCube way back in 2003. (check out our original review from back in the day, there's no fancy pictures but the write-up is still solid)

Even if you're too young to remember this age-old classic entry, fear not because it's just like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate... except with less characters, but it did have its own Adventure mode.

In this latest tournament to grace SSBU, you'll only be able to use characters, stages and items which were featured in SSBM, the tournament starts today and will last for three days.

What an excellent way to start off 2020 in true Super Smash Bros. style, plus you can't help but admire the detail put into the promotional artwork above. It's always nice when a company like Nintendo honours the lineage of some of its long-running series.

Will you be going back to the days of the sophomore entry in the Super Smash Bros. series? Is your favourite character still eligible for this tournament? What themes would you like to see in SSBU for the rest of 2020?
